Amey Consulting delivered the detailed design of a 24.15m single span railway underbridge, 80m of highway and the associated temporary works platforms as part of the £17.5M Lichfield Southern Bypass scheme commissioned in the strategic partnership arrangement between Amey and Staffordshire County Council.
The bridge structure carries an existing two-track railway line and an innovative approach was required throughout the design stage to ensure the structure could be constructed whilst keeping disruption to rail users to a minimum.
The bridge deck was constructed offline and slid into place during a 96-hour Christmas 2019 railway possession. The installation was carried out successfully and the track was handed back to Network Rail with no incidents and more than five hours early.
The speakers for this event include Amey's Monica Steele, Sean McNulty and Neil Porter.
