Geobrugg and Landmarc launch coastal erosion protection product

Rockfall and erosion protection specialist Geobrugg and UK-based Landmarc Environmental Engineering have developed Tecco Cell, a new product for coastal erosion protection.

Tecco Cell is based on a specially developed arrangement of cells which are made from rolls of stainless high-tensile chain link mesh.

In cooperation with Geobrugg, Landmarc developed Tecco Cell to lock blocks of different sized mesh cells into position in order to gain optimal energy dissipation. The mesh dissipates wave energy, preventing cut back erosion and erosion behind coastal defenses.

Tecco Cell also allows  flexibility of the mesh cell to move with changing beach levels, improving the anchoring ability of the cell over time, whether for small areas or large stretches of coastline.

The material in Tecco Cell can be recycled if its cells are ever to be removed from a site, meaning there’ is little impact on the environment during construction and after completion.

As part of an initial trial, Tecco Cell was placed at Beesands, Devon. Over a five year period, Geobrugg monitored corrosion levels where Tecco Cell had been implemented. Geobrugg reported no sign of corrosion on the stainless steel mesh material in Beesands.
