Students, apprentices, recent graduates and early career professionals have until 8 November to apply for Ground Engineering's new early career contributor initiative.
The new scheme is replacing the previous student editor roles. It is open to undergraduates, master’s students, PhD candidates, (degree) apprentices, recent graduates and early career professionals with less than five years of work experience (or less than three years if they have completed their PhD).
Applicants from geotechnics, civil engineering, construction, engineering geology or other geoscience-related fields - who have a strong interest in ground engineering - are invited to apply.
Selected contributors will have the opportunity to write for GE’s Early Career blog - currently still known as the Student Editor blog - with posts published regularly on the GE website.
Topics can cover personal experiences, technical insights, reflections on industry challenges and early career growth. Contributors are encouraged to offer their unique perspectives on the transition from education to industry, as well as their thoughts on the future of ground engineering.
This is an excellent opportunity for early career engineers and technicians to develop non-academic writing skills, express their ideas and engage with a larger audience within the ground engineering sector.
While this is an unpaid position, selected contributors will receive free entry to GE conferences and the GE Awards in 2025, as well as a year’s free print and digital subscription to the magazine.
The initiative is primarily aimed at UK-based applicants to ensure they can fully benefit from these opportunities.
Contributors are expected to submit a minimum 500-word blog post every two to four months, depending on the number of contributors selected. This is a fully remote role, running from January to December 2025. For any further questions, please contact GE editor Nia Kajastie at [email protected].
To apply for the early career contributor initiative, please fill out this survey form.
The deadline for applications is midnight on 8 November 2024.
